2023 = No Thank You
December 29, 2023Making Christmas Gifts, Etc.
December 4, 2023I’ve been busy with everything but writing in WordPress, etc. Still there have been some landmarks.
Natural Color, Open Fire
October 13, 2023I spent last weekend at the first of my local fall festival lineups, the Ox and Mule Festival, in Gerald, Missouri.
I’ve been the dyer there for almost ten years (That much already???) and it’s one of my favorite small venues. I get firewood, access to Black walnuts, lots of dye-source weeds, and interesting neighbors. (more…)
Daily Writing Prompt: Epic Baking/Cooking Fail
September 10, 2023In my opinion, “epic” is an overused word. Despite my opinion, I’ll share my most recent oven-borne disaster: last night.
And it was more “disappointing” than “epic”.
Anyway.
What’s your favorite recipe?
August 27, 2023Today’s prompt: “What’s your favorite recipe?”
Good question.
There are so many to choose from, but my favorite recipe is generally the one in front of me as I attempt to juggle work, side gigs, and the medical and/or dietary needs of the three featherless bipedss living in my house.
Sometimes my recipe comes from a box, as of pancake mix.
Any recipe that when I’m dead on my feet and overwhelmed which will feed three people with a minimum of fuss. Aside from that, here’s a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, and another jar of strawberry jam.
Knock yourself out.
Unpleasant Truth #234234-A
August 26, 2023How my family feels about me:
NOT that I blame them. I am not the eternal mother with cookies on hand with a tendency to stay put and not mess up the house.
Swap this guy a more or less woman type person with a bad haircut and this would be me.
Less creativity. Less frenetic activity. More predictability.
Oh well.
Excitement. Whee.
August 26, 2023In response to the latest (8/26/23) writing prompt, “Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.”, here it is: I dropped an open bottle of CYA glue on the floor of the workshop. It stank and made a mess, but I managed to get it cleaned up before the entire bottle barfed it’s contents upon the floor.
Um, whee?
Commercial Resin Pen Blanks = Hacks for PITAs
August 26, 2023While hiding from the heat in the basement this and last week, I found a stash of half completed pen sets from a few years back. Usually they were glued up commercial resin blocks, or rather the half that didn’t shatter while being worked so you’d be left with a half pen set.
Disappointing, but that’s life. Commercially sold resin blocks seem to have the handling properties of window glass, one false move and they shatter, or at least chip at inconvenient places like right by the bushing all the way down to the brass tube. Bushing chips can be fixed if it’s a clean break using CYA glue, preferably thin/ultra thin. Apply CYA, fit the chip back in it’s hole, let it cure, turn on.
